Sermons: Pouring Over God’s Word

I believe it is one of the greatest gifts, but also one of the greatest responsibilities that any cleric, pastor, priest, etc has. To pour over God’s word and speak it rightly back into the world and into people’s hearts. When done faithfully to open hearts, God’s word will not come back without accomplishing something. Of course, this is the call for all of us in every moment of our lives, but preaching is the bedrock for how we all learn to do that.

Below you will find sermons grouped by series.

  • Encounters with Christ (In the Gospel of John)

Lives are changed fundamentally when they meet Jesus. There seems to be two responses. Those that resist and those that find new life through this beautiful relationship.

  • The 7 Miracles of Jesus (In the Gospel of John)

Jesus miraculously works throughout history and in our lives. The abundance of miracles in the bible should make us asking, "Why don't we see miracles abundantly in our own life?" We should be watching for God to work, because he does. The amazing reality is that as God works, he reveals more about himself. We see God and Jesus for who they are through his work.

  • What is Love?

Love is something we all desire. In fact, it is considered a fundamental need by many. As important as love is, do we really know what it is? Love is more than a feeling. Love is more than an action. Love is even more than a way of being. What we learn from Jesus is that love has an identity and so it is particular and has individual characteristics. If we ever want to know the fullness and grandeur of love, we need to meet it, know it and live in it. We need to realize that God is love.

  • I Am Who I Am

Who is God? When He is so grand and so big, how are we ever supposed to know him? Well, God gives us many ways to get to know him. Particularly, he wants us to know how he relates to us, so Jesus gives us 7 I am statements to help us understand that all-important relationship

  • Practical Faith: A Rule of Life

Sometimes we can feel like faith is to heady or theological, but the Christian faith is also a really practical one. As much as we need to approach God in faith, we also have extremely practical ways of doing this, built into God’s creation and our life together. I am hoping that everyone takes a practical step to build a rule of life that incorporates these practical steps, so that together we might grow in faith

  • Privileged for Christ

We know that some people are more privileged than others. We know that not everyone is given equally. In the midst of that, we should trust that God will set all right, but in the meantime, the question remains: what is the purpose of privilege in God’s plan?

As Jesus now dwells with His Father in heaven, He sends His Holy Spirit upon us. The gift of the Holy Spirit is immense, wonderful, and means more than we can ever imagine. One of the amazing realities of this indwelling Spirit, that is God in us, is that He bears fruit through us. Fruit of the kingdom, fruit of another world, fruit that comes directly from the source (God) for our good. The fruit we see manifesting through us are love, kindness, faithfulness, goodness, joy, self-control, chastity, modesty, generosity, peace, and gentleness. These might not seem otherworldly but when God is behind them they are truly wonderful.

We may not realize it, but there is a lot in this life that we have to escape from and overcome because they otherwise seek to control or destroy us. These things come from without and within. The only thing is that we can’t escape on our own. Even if we do escape we must also know what we are escaping to. God wants to help us escape, but then also to find abundant life in Him.

  • A Family Purposed to Welcome (7 talks)

From the very beginning, God had a purpose for all of humanity and ultimately creation itself. Of course. as this plays out God consistently enriches the idea and shows us how to be a true family and how to truly welcome.

  • Precursors to Christ (10 talks)

Our need and longing for God have been built into our very being. Throughout our lives and history God has continually shown us this through people and situations. This should help us to understand how she shows himself in our lives too.

Jesus has ascended into heaven, but he does not leave his disciples alone. He sends them the Holy Spirit so that they can continue to build God’s Kingdom in His wake.
