Litany for Remembrance Day

By Rev. Michael Stonhouse

O Lord, our God: on this Remembrance Sunday we praise you for all who have died that we might live, for all who have endured pain that we might know joy, for all who have suffered imprisonment that we might know freedom.

O LORD, HEAR US.

We give you grateful thanks for the memory and good example of those who have laid down their lives in the service of our country. We bless you for their courage and devotion, even unto death.

O LORD, HEAR US.

Accept their sacrifice. Let it now be in vain that they have died for freedom and for peace.

O LORD, HEAR US.

Help us to remember that you sent your Son, Jesus Christ, into the world to reconcile us to one another and to you. Help us to remember the price you paid for our salvation, even the Cross of your Son, and we ask you to send your peace speedily to all peoples everywhere.

O LORD, HEAR US.

Remind us that we too are called to a ministry of peace-making, forgiveness and reconciliation, so that the work you began in Jesus might continue here today.

O LORD, HEAR US.

Remind us all those who mourn the loss of those who laid down their lives in war and in the service of their country: we ask that you would be with them in their sorrow and loss.

O LORD, HEAR US.

Help us to remember all who suffer as the result of war, especially the maimed, the blind, and those who are afflicted in mind or spirit. May we

have pity upon the countless ones who are homeless and alone, and those who are refugees and no longer have a country to call their own.

O LORD, HEAR US.

Fill us with compassion for them, assist us in ministering to their needs, and help us to bring healing to their lives.

O LORD, HEAR US.

Give us all a faith to see beyond the troubles and difficulties of our present times, that we might see your overriding live, care and sovereignty. Help us to know that nothing in all creation can separate us from your love, which is ours in Christ Jesus.

O LORD, HEAR US.

Help us to serve you faithfully all our lives and help us always to place our hope and trust in you, and in you alone.

O LORD, HEAR US.
